Most don't love the thorns

They show us the parts of ourselves

we'd rather not look at

the parts we keep hidden away

The roses are the beauty 

that everyone sees

Not what's behind the mask

The thorns are what 

we keep hidden

sometimes even from ourselves

When we learn to embrace

not only the soft petals of our roses

but the sharp edges of our thorns

we can truly learn to love ourselves
